Don't stop thinking about tomorrow, yesterday's gone

A
This week was going  ok...I mostly stuck to plan for the majority of the week, I made some good choices and had plenty of variety.....and then I stuffed it all up.
I'm blaming one of my best friends (mainly cos she's on her hols so is unlikely to see this).....lets call her Sara, for that is her name. I needed to get her a birthday pressie, and while I had the main affair, just wanted something little to go in the gift bag.....so yesterday I wandered into the local gift shop. Epic fail there and then as it has a Thorntons concession just inside the door. Now I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, I love Thorntons Viennesse truffles. I mean, I really love them, in a fairly unhealthy way. Having been positively angelic that day, I figured, having a Vienesse truffle bar at 9 syns would be a lovely treat after my Subway salad at lunch time. I picked up some other chocs for my friend, and that is where I should have skipped to the till, full of joy that I'd got this lovely treat to savour after lunch.
Yeah, so that absolutely never happened!
Now, I'm going to say something controversial here, so if you're easily shocked (or from the SW police)....skip a few lines. Since I started SW, I have always had a small treat after weigh in....usually a chocolate bar, or a bag of crisps...only ever going over my daily syns by a few. Recently however, I've been going nuts after weigh in..cheese and biscuits, pizza followed by chocolate. You get the picture. So I picked up a whole bag of Viennesse truffles for Ron. Lateron 🤣. I told myself I'd have them after weigh in tonight and drove back to the office.
I ate my bar fairly swiftly....ok, let's be honest, there was no savouring involved and then I was in the office on my own.
I thought I ought to put the chocs in my car so I wouldn't be tempted.....and then I thought er no, actually I'm going to stuff the lot down my neck right now.
That was it. Gone in a jiffy and me left with teeth that had grown their own fur coats from all the sugar and feeling really cross with myself.
I get so frustrated, why do I do it? Answers on a post card please...
Then last night, three things happened, I saw an inspirational quote on Instagram......it was something along the lines of as long as you are thinking about something, you'll never stop striving for it. The second thing was my 1 year journal arrived ready for the new year and thirdly our lovely SW lady messaged me with some words of encouragement.
So, I can't promise I'm going to lose weight this week, but the past is behind me (as per my Fleetwood Mac inspired post title) and i will keep thinking about my weight, and keep trying and most importantly I'm armed with coloured pens and a fancy new journal to keep me on the straight and narrow!

I need a bit of inspiration

Hello you lovely lot, or should I say, hello lovely reader, singular, cos really, apart from my mom, who is obliged to read this by law, I've no idea if anyone else actually clicks through on the link!

So I haven't written down any ramblings for aaages, but tonight, while bored and in the bath (sorry about that image)....I thought I'd have a read through some of my posts, see if i could gee myself up a bit on the weight loss/healthy living front and bore you guys to death. Two birds and all that.

I've been racking my brain as to what I've stopped doing/do differently now, to when I was in the swing of things, losing good amounts like 4lbs on a regular basis. Initially, I lost 4 stone in about 7 months, and then faffed about for the rest of the year to get my 5 stone.....the most I've ever lost.....beat my own personal record by two mighty stone.....and then it all stopped. I've no idea why.

The great new grooves that I had made disappeared....under lots of excuses, and some genuine reasons.....my feet were really playing up (I have actually now been diagnosed with Achilles tendinitis), the pool was freezing and I kept getting cramp in the deep end, the winters nights were drawing in, there was an r in the month etc etc

I've tried a few things to get my mojo back....
Booked me and the hubby to walk up and down Snowdon in the dark.....and then buggered my feet up, so that's on indefinite hold until they're ok again......kept having a word with myself.....because, I really wanted to be slimmer by our holiday in the sun this year, but alas I'll be fatter :-( Not much, but enough to make me annoyed with myself. Bang goes the vintage high waisted bikini I had envisaged myself in!

Anyhow, this is beginning to sound like a whine....so I'll stop there.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, a healthy life style works for me if I plan it like a project....stickers, coloured pens, post it notes, the lot.
So I've set myself up a new foodie/slimming Insta account full_fat_female and I'm hoping that will keep me inspired. Plus about a month ago my SW friend and I changed groups. Our new SW lady is lovely. Super friendly, down to earth, on the ride with us...and I swear she's got GPS on me....cos her words of wisdom always come at the right time. Her raffles are ace, and her interest table is actually interesting.

My SW friend and I message each other pics of food all fay every day, which really helps and there is a really inspirational lady at SW who has lost 5 stone really quite quickly. She looks amazing and clearly feels it too, so I'm hoping some of her sparkle is rubbing off on me too.

The best thing is, that even though I've been on the sw plan for almost 2 years, and I'm not where I want to be....i am still a million miles away from the person I was when I started, and I will not EVER  go back there.

In the meantime, I'll keep on keeping on!

I'm a saboteur!

Cor blimey - I've gone right off the rails of late. My main meals are perfect - I'm eating the best I have ever ate.......but then I have seconds, and then I pick at the left overs as I'm boxing them up for the freezer.

Then there's the experimental things.....I recently decided to have a go at my own version of low syn cheese cakes.....using lemon Greek yoghurt, and ginger nuts. I figured, 2 ginger nuts would be ok, I could factor that in to my 'naughties' - but the shop didn't have any - so I bought some ginger snap type biscuits instead - and you needed more than 2 to make a half decent cheese cake base. Did I mention after telling my husband not to eat them, I then ate the whole pack myself.....:-(

So, the following day, I decided, I would try again, the previous days version one cheesecake, was er, shall we say, a bit rubbery......I bought a pack of ginger nuts ready for the base, and ate the whole packet.......EPIC FAIL!

So, group rolled round, I knew it would be a gain, even though I expected it, and I knew I totally deserved it, from the junk I had shovelled in - I felt really fed up after standing on the scales, especially when I saw I had slipped back up into the next stone, which means I am now just under the original 5 stone I had lost :-(

So it was with what I can only assume are SW lady's psychic powers that she spoke about self sabotage in group - we all had the chance to tell the group what we were doing, and what we planned to do about it......one lady pointed out that you need to love you inner self - how right was she? The only person losing out from me shoving all the rubbish down my cake hole - is me!

For me - that means knowing that be it right or wrong, I can not control myself around certain foods - ginger nuts being one of the long list......other things are most chocolate unless it is Cadburys or Galaxy which I can take or leave, most savoury snacks, nuts, bread, cake, the little meringues from the bakery section......are you getting the picture?

So, in order to stop self sabotaging, I need to make sure that I don't buy the stuff that I can't control - you see, I kid myself that I can eat one 2 fingered kit-kat, or a couple of ginger nuts. I'm just lying to myself really.

I thought I would go back to what I did when I first started - my only 'naughties' that I kept in stock, were the SW caramel bars, and Curly Wurlys so that I avoided temptation. The caramel bars are far to sweet to have more than one at a time, and Curly Wurly's - well they are probably my least favourite chocolate ever, but if I desperately need a chocolate fix, they take the edge off, without me wanting to eat the whole 5 pack!

So, I've just done the shopping.....Curly Wurly's were number one on the list.

I'm planning on liking myself a bit more this week - starting with a personal training session tomorrow - eek!

Blank Slate

So, it's the 3rd Jan already - happy new year by the way! Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, and is gearing up for the return to the rat race tomorrow :-/

I haven't been on here much, haven't felt particularly inspired to write anything, truth be told.

I am now at around 4 1/2 stone loss, having put on around 1/2 stone throughout December - now normally, I would be distraught at this - but part of my journey has been learning that life happens, and sometimes we eat crap, and sometimes we stuff the crap down our necks faster than you would think is humanly possible - but then we get over it, and carry on with the good stuff. Previously, I would have beat myself up for that, and felt guilty, and then eaten more to get over the guilt, and then felt more guilty, and then thought, it's no good, I can't do this, so I'll give up, and that would have been the end of it.

For me, December brought my 40th birthday, two weeks before Christmas, and as part of those celebrations - I have had an afternoon tea, tapas (twice), Mexican food - my absolute favourite, four Christmas dinners (including the 'official' one on the actual day), a pub meal, and finally last night, some lovely Caribbean nosh.

I have continued to go to SW all the way through, and I think throughout the whole year, have only missed one weigh in, and maybe 3 IMAGE therapy sessions - so for me, this is a major life style change - I have never, ever stuck to any kind of sensible eating plan for anything longer than about 3 or 4 months.

Our lovely SW lady has been supportive throughout, and better than that, for me - realistic. Early on she told us that we had to make peace with ourselves and the way that we would cope with Christmas - for some, that would be remaining 100% on plan (fair play, no idea how they can be so 'on it'), some people would be buying a box of chocolates for a treat, and then make that last throughout the festive period, others would be having the day off, and for some, well, they might take the whole of December off. We needed to have a think about what would get us through it, and accept that was what we were doing, and as such, might put some weight on - but that was ok. She then went on to tell us that getting weighed each week, even if we weren't 100% on it, would help us keep on it, in some way. For me, I know that if I had not bothered going to group in December - well, I definitely would have put a whole lot more than 1/2 stone on!

I decided, that I was going to be on plan aside from the week of my birthday - I tried to make sensible choices in some of my meals out, didn't have 3 courses, where I would have in previous years. Then, I decided, that I was going to have a small box of Thorntons Viennese truffles - I can not tell you how much I love these....so, I went to Thorntons, which did not have a box - only smallish bags ......so I bought two - in my head, that equates to a box, right? I imagined watching a Christmas film, a nice cuppa and savouring each chocolate in my bag of truffles.........then I ate a bag on the way back to the office......and the other bag on my way home! What is the matter with me? So, because I just shovelled them down - I didn't enjoy them, and honestly, was a total waste of time. Christmas day itself was ok, Boxing day, not so much...did I mention my nans recipe trifle.......I loooooove trifle. So Christmas for me, was not as on plan as I intended to be. I should know by now, that I have no moderation switch!

At group last week, having put on 2 1/2 lbs since Christmas eve - we talked in group about making a date to get back in the zone. Not setting ourselves up to fail by choosing a date where we wouldn't be able to give it 100% from that point.

So that's what today is for me - last night, saw the last of my birthday celebrations (Caribbean food and the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at the Rep, thanks for asking) and I'm all done. So, this morning, I started with a full English (all perfectly acceptable on SW), then a lunch of tuna mayo, veggie rice, and some salad and tea was a lamb roast. I've had some fruit, and a yoghurt, and I'm about to have a treat of a choccy bar with a cuppa......and........drum roll please, for the first time in an absolute age, I have stayed on plan, right up until bed time! Yay!

Last year, I lost 5 stone, but 4 stone of that was done by July, I just messed about for the tail end of the year, so I am treating today as my blank slate, and getting right back on it. Here's to the next 5 stone!

Wish me luck :-)

Frockin' hell

It's been a while dear reader, and for that I'm sorry. I had lost my way a bit - wasn't so bothered about documenting my every step - and had stopped treating my weight loss as a project, so stopped blogging, writing things down, and caring, a little bit. Sometimes, despite losing 5 stone - it still seems like there is so far to go, and I lost sight of how far I had come.

The good news is - I'm back on it - after a few months of yo-yo-ing up and down, between 4 1/2 and 5 stone loss - and I finally got my 5 stone award a couple of weeks back - bang on! Did a little whoop on the scales and everything :-)

I've been a little more inspired this last week as I have a big weekend coming up - I may have mentioned that it's my 40th birthday in a couple of weeks - and next weekend, I am going along with some friends to have my hair and make up done, vintage style - I can not wait! I'm not the most girliest of girls, but have always loved having my hair and makeup done - as I am rubbish at it myself, and I look quite different, done up.....it doesn't help when you are as blind as a bat without your specs, as even with my nose pushed up against the mirror - I struggle to see what I am doing (that's my excuse, and I am sticking to it). So in order to be completely in keeping with the theme of the day, we're all dressing up vintagey too.

I've wanted a full twirly circle skirt for as long as I can remember - in fact, I even coerced my nan into making me a minty green one some years ago - I think it probably tied in with around the time I first saw Grease.....so, you can imagine my excitement, when I sent for my first 50's style dress, and then my utter devastation (I am not kidding), when it didn't fit, and looked horrendous.

So, some 7 or 8 dresses later, 3 pairs of shoes (I may need my own delivery van for the returns), and much posing for my phone camera to take a picture before falling off the things it is precariously balanced on, for best effect - so I can send to my mom for her honest opinion and, drum roll please........I've got one!!!! Yay - lovely net petticoat underneath and everything......just got the shoes and bag to get now......did I mention, it's next Saturday, and I work full time, so shopping is going to be tricky.....eeeeek!

I'm thrilled to say, that for the first time in around 15 years - I have had to buy a smaller size, because something was TOO BIG!!!! I'm pleased as punch to say my frock is a size 22/24 - yipeeeee :-)

Just hoping I don't look like this in it - as in my head, I look like a million dollars :-)

Review time....

I've had a lovely week this week, I've seen a lot of people, for one reason or another, who I haven't seen for a while - and they have all given me such lovely compliments about my weight loss. This got me thinking......as I mentioned a couple of posts ago - my mojo seems to have diminished somewhat. It's not that I don't want to lose weight anymore, or that I've gone off SW (I have actually been thinking about becoming a SW consultant, when I have lost enough)......I think it is that I've let the little demon out, and started to self sabotage.

At first, I was blaming my mother in law, who we are living with at the moment - not because she's an old dragon, and I have to comfort eat (she's not) but that she keeps buying biscuits that I like....digestive or ginger nut anyone?

Look away now, if you are trying to eat healthily....

In group this week, our we were talking about people who sabotage us......sw lady's mom, for trying to feed her up on cake, my dear old nans, - both who would comment that I needed to lose weight, and then in the next breath, offer me food, friends trying to encourage you to have a drink on a night out, and so on.....and we give in, and do it - eat the cake, stuff down the boiled sweets (both nan's poison) and have 5 or 6 cocktails, all the time inwardly berating ourselves. Then comes the guilt, usually, swiftly followed by eating more food to deal with the emotion.

Essentially, what we all talked about, was how to stop the saboteurs.....a frank conversation with the person who does it.....but then sometimes, that leads to them saying...' I'm not offering you any cake, cos I know you can't have it' or 'ooooh, you're being naughty today aren't you'....or just a simple 'tut tut'...........none of this helps...in my case, it actually makes me defiant - and I bloody well will have it!

So what do we do? Well the answer to this is remarkably simple......stop the worst saboteur in the world.......YOU! Well, not you specifically, lovely reader, but the person who is actually shoving the cake in your hole, so to speak......in my case....ME. Unless you are in one of those weird extreme feeders relationships - where they pretty much force feed you, in which case - get out.......while you can.

So, if my mother in law wants biscuits in the house, then, she shall have them and I just need to stop eating them - I, am in charge of my own destiny......right?

I've just sat and read through all of my blogs, and realised that at least 2 of the targets I have set, I have missed! Oops. So here we go, I'm setting a new one, so, put your phone down (unless you are reading this on it, obvs), get comfy, and pay attention - I really want to stick to this one.....

By the time I have been doing SW for one whole year - which will be on 7th Jan - then, I want to have lost 7 stone - I think this might be about 1/2 way there for me.....

If I can do this, then I will be chuffed to bits - that leaves me with 2 stone 3 1/2 lbs to get off in 16 weeks - 1.9 lb a week.......

Just about do-able, I reckon - just got to get rid of my current lurgy, and kick start the exercise, which has been on hold for just over a week, mainly because I couldn't breathe ......and it does seem to help a lot with exercise.

Please do keep cheering me on - I really need that, and thanks once again, for all your lovely comments, on here, when I see you, on fb etc xxxx

Beating myself up

So, I've had two weeks off work - admittedly, with a week in work in the middle, due to some bad planning and holiday plans that never got off the ground.....

Anyhow, I'm wittering before I've even got going! But, where I was going with that is, that I've been feeling a bit rubbish about myself over the last few weeks and consequently hitting the sugar and carbs! I'm like a Labrador! Can. Not. Stop. Eating! Aaaaggggghhhhhhhh.

But it's got to stop. I know it's only because I'm out of a routine, and as the weather has been rubbish and the OH couldn't get any time of work, I haven't really been able to do some of the things I would have liked with my time off - taking the dogs to the beach, painting the ducks shed.....and living with the mother in law at the moment, brings its own issues - nothing like that - we get on fine, but I can't really do any pottering, although I have redesigned her house (in my head) for when we can buy it.....which is never and in desperation I've even rearranged the furniture in our bedroom, which was no mean feat given that there is a lot of furniture in our room! I've also done quite a bit of research on what I can do with the girls for my birthday that doesn't include too much food and drink, but inevitably....bad weather + time on the sofa + computer time = needing something to nibble on :-/ So in some ways, I can't wait to get back to work!

Anyhow - you should know me by now, we've been friends for a little while after all, and what I love best is a bit of organising - it all stems back to playing post office with my nan as a child.....I must get my love of lists, and bits of paper from her......so, not satisfied with the tools I have access to at SW on line, I have come up with a little challenge for myself.

I have a weight that I want to get to by my 40th birthday ideally (11th December, for anyone who's interested) - but most certainly by 8th Jan 2016, which will see me being at SW for a year, which is a major milestone in itself, and should definitely prove to me that it is a change of lifestyle, not a 'diet'. This came about after our body IMAGE group last week, where the SW consultant mentioned that some people did not have interim targets set - me being one of them - so I had a think about what was realistic and achievable and decided on the target I have chosen.....it's no where near where I want to be eventually, but it will mean that I have lost a whopping 7 stone. It will take me to around the weight I was when I worked at a riding stables back in 2000, and when I spent all my time in jodhpurs (and was confident to do that) - I was probably the fittest I have ever been then - riding two or three times a day, as well as all the manual work walking with kids on ponies and catching the little darlings in from the field (ponies, not kids), when there was all that nice grass to munch.....and although I had to have my leather riding boots and show jacket made - I felt pretty good about myself back then.....

So, I've made myself a little table and graph on an excel spreadsheet - so I can enter the weight I want to lose (2lb min a week) until the end of the year.....alongside the actual weight I lose - and I have chosen lovely pink and purple to reflect each of the amounts, so it is a clear visual aid to help me to see how closely I am tracking the amount that I want to lose - hopefully, the two lines will run more or less parallel to each other, but even if they run one on top of the other - that's fine too!

I've been researching some lovely vintage tea dresses - as this is the style I love, and want to wear for my birthday celebrations - so together with all the gorgeous frocks.......I'm hoping to keep on the straight and narrow.

Stuff these last two weeks, back on it from weigh in tonight - I guess everyone over indulges on their holidays don't they - even if mine was only in miserable old grey Worcestershire!
